ROMABIO - 4 gal. Bianco White Limewash Interior/Exterior Paint: $250
Misc Items:
Sigman 8 ft. 6 in. x 11 ft. 6 in., 12 oz. Canvas Drop Cloth $35
6 1-quart plastic containers with lid - for special colors.
-Check for absorbency on your masonry surface with water to see if it soaks up (absorbent) and doesn’t form droplets or sit directly on the surface (non-absorbent and will not work).
-a concentrated slaked-lime paint product. You have to add water
-For thicker applications, dilute 3/4 water, 100% paint
-For thinner, dilute 1 to 1.
- Available size:
4 GAL covers up to 1,800 sq/ft
Makes 6 – 8 GAL after dilution process.
-Designed to be a one-coat process with no need for an additional primer,
- Results are best when applied with the Masonry Brush
-apply it with a Masonry Brush. A roller is Not recommended.
-works best with 75% dilution rate or 3/4 part water to 1-part paint.
-Hand mix or drill the paint for 5-10 minutes thoroughly
-pure slaked lime in water. It produces a unique surface glow due to the double refraction of calcite crystals.
-relies on being "drawn into a substrate" unlike a modern paint that adheres to the surface.
-!If a wall is not damped, it can leave the lime and pigments on the surface powdery; <<< this is what I want!
-When limewash is initially applied, it has very low opacity, which can lead novices to overthicken the paint. Drying increases opacity and subsequent curing increases opacity even further.

what to do about the grout???
paint grout LAST w lime wash
alternate colors: mix lime wash with:
- white (natural)
- grayish - play SAND
- light orange - sand/brick powder
- brick orange- 100% brick powder
- black - 100% powered charcoal.
FINISHING TOUCHES:
Pock-mark bricks with black splatter (lime wash w powdered charcoal)
Burn a branch end, use black end to make marks, pits, verticle cracks
Use black (lime wash w powdered charcoal) w small brush
- to create irregular bricks
- to create crack lines

-Silicate Mineral paint
-contains inorganic colorants, and potassium-based, alkali silicate (water glass), also known as potassium silicate, liquid potassium silicate, or LIQVOR SILICIVM.
-mineral paint coats are not prone to static charging and thermo-plasticity (stickiness developing under heat), which is common for surfaces coated with dispersion or silicone resin,
-Silicate paints are highly color-tone stable. As they are solely colored with mineral pigments that do not fade with exposure to UV radiation, the silicate paint coats remain constant in color for decades.
-A coat with mineral colors does not form a layer but instead "permanently bonds to the substrate material".
The result is a highly durable connection between paint coat and substrate.
-The water glass binding agent is highly resistant to UV light. While dispersions based on acrylate or silicone resin over the years tend to grow brittle, chalky, and crack under UV, the inorganic binder water glass remains stable.
-The chemical fusion with the substrate and the UV stability of the binder are the fundamental reasons for the extraordinarily high lifetime of silicate paints.
-require Silicon dioxide, (aka silica) substrate for setting. -they are highly suitable for mineral substrates such as mineral plasters and concrete.
-The permeability to water vapor of silicate paints is equivalent to that of the substrate, so silicate paints do not inhibit the diffusion of water vapor.
-Moisture contained in parts of a structure or in the plaster may diffuse outward without resistance:
-keeps walls dry and prevents structural damage.
-helps avoid condensation of water on the surface of building materials, reducing the risk of infestation by algae and fungi.
-The high alkalinity of the water glass binding agent adds to the inhibitory effect against infestation by microorganisms and completely eliminates the need for additional preservatives.
Whitewash
-especially compatible with masonry because it is absorbed easily and the resultant chemical reaction hardens the medium.
-Whitewash cures through a reaction with carbon dioxide in the atmosphere to form calcium carbonate in the form of calcite
-Whitewash can be tinted for decorative use
