Ipanema Beach Postos

Ipanema Beach Postos

Postos – “life guard stations where you'll also find bathrooms.”

Posto 1: Leme Beach
Posto 1 is the beginning of Leme and is a quieter part of the beach that attracts families and older residents. The perfect spot to catch an early morning sunrise.
Leme Hill offers gorgeous views over Leme and Copacabana.

Posto 2
Walk along the famous black and white waved-motif promenade towards posto 2 and posto 4.
Watch a fast-paced game of frescoball:
Played with two players that hit a small ball to one another on wooden rackets.
The two players work as a partnership to keep the ball in the air, rather than compete against each        other.
Parts of the beach here are officially sectioned off for frescoball, volleyball, and football

POSTO 2 Comments:
Excellent the beach, it is one of the places with more extension of sand of the beach of Copacabana, for that reason a series of sport, cultural, musical events, etc. takes place in that place. It faces the traditional Copacabana Palace hotel.

Especially the legendary beach where evening walk gives you a perfect peace. You can walk from top to bottom and leave the sun from here. It's smaller than Copacabana Beach but it's a lot of joy. The beach is generally clean because they pay attention to the cleanliness of the beach. It is also possible to coincide with small concerts around the beach in the evening hours.

Nice beach, very extensive, is quite crowded, so it is advisable to arrive early to have a good place. There are many stands that offer chairs, umbrellas, chairs, and caipirinhas, you can haggle to get a good price. The waves are quite strong (or at least on the date that I was, September). The bad thing is the large number of sellers, it is understandable since it is a very touristy place, but they are very insistent, it is annoying to be saying that not every 30 sec.

Popular meeting place on the beach of Copacabana.
Good region to catch a football game in the sand.

I always stay at this point on the beach, and I've never had problems, just perfect

Posto 4
Posto 4 also has an area of palm trees where slackliners will rig up cords in between the trees and balance their way across or show off their impressive acrobatic moves in a series of jumps, bounces, and twists.

Posto 6: Copacabana Beach
The most famous beach in Rio: the Praia de Copacabana.
Also, Posto 6 is The most crowded part of Copacabana Beach, right on the limit with Ipanema.
The most democratic beach in Rio, since people from all social classes enjoy it together and tourists from the entire world pack out its large sandy beach.

At the right side of the beach, the water is more tranquil and the view is the best.
Almost all beaches in Rio are divided between postos - lifeguard stations where you'll also find bathrooms. The most crowded part of Copacabana Beach is Posto 6, right on the limit with Ipanema.

Posto 5 and posto 6 line up along the Copacabana beach.
popular for stand up surf paddle as the sea is calmer than the rest of the shoreespecially next to Copacabana Fort at posto 6 which acts as a natural windbreaker.
Stroll past the fish market where the local fishermen prepare their catches of the day

Between posto 1 and 6
Along the length between posto 1 and 6 are several kiosks that serve selections of Brazilian dishesseafood and drinks
They are popular as hangout spots post-beach and offer refreshments during the day, especially caipirinhas
Quiosque Praia Skol 360º is one of the most crowded and lively kiosks with live music, a friendly crowd, and low-key parties that drift into the early hours.

Posto 7
Posto 7 is known as Arpoador and is the beginning of IpanemaIn the 1960s, Copacabana was the tourist hotspot; But Ipanema has become the trendy new go-to place for locals and tourists alike.

With its hippy, laid-back feel, and beautiful people, it’s not hard to see the appeal. The Arpoador rock that juts out into the ocean at posto 7 provides the perfect spot to watch the sunset over the Two Brothers peaks and witness the sky and sea turn various shades of orange, reds and pinks.
Two Brothers peaks

During the day, especially at dawn, posto 7 attracts local surfers keen to catch one of the perfectly formed waves coming in. The impeccable surf conditions are ideal for beginners and surf schools offer lessons there first thing on a Saturday morning. Later in the day, the sea generally gets calmer and the clear and warm waters attract bathers and swimmers.

In front of Rua Farme de Amoedo the beach is known as Bolsa de Valores or Crystal Palace.

Posto 8
The space dedicated to the LBGTQ public, that rock the place every weekend. Super fun, this is a great beach for open-minded travellers!

Posto 8 is also the domain of favela kids: those who live in self-built neighborhoods, or favelas, where police violence is mostly located. morro, or hill, is often used as a synonym for favela
If you are up on the hill, you are a trafficker”
Most favela residents are ordinary citizens, workers, and students.
 a stereotypical favela kid
  • dark skinned,
  • curly dark hair,
  • shirtless and
  • Clutching a football under his arm.
Rio’s favelas and the people who live there are considered as external to the rest of Brazil, and a threat to the narrative of Rio as an attractive “global city”

Posto 9 - Ipanema
This stretch of beach is, traditionally, where things happened and it became a symbol of the carioca lifestyle. However, as it became very popular, most of the trendsetters are moving left to Coqueirão, an area of Praia de Ipanema marked by a coconut tree higher than all the others.

Posto 9
Posto 9, right off Rua Vinícius de Moraes, is Garota de Ipanema, which is where Rio’s most lithe and tanned bodies tend to migrate. The area is also known as the Cemetério dos Elefantes because of the handful of old leftists, hippies and artists who sometimes hang out there.

Posto 10  - Leblon Beach
Posto 10 is the beginning of Leblon,
a family beach, much more tranquil than Ipanema.
Praia do Leblon is perfect for tourists travelling to Rio with kids or
For those travelers who just want to spend some relaxing hours reading a book on the beach.

 Posto 11 and posto 12
The final two postos are posto 11 and posto 12. Although anyone is welcome there, this section of the beach has a more exclusive feel due to the wealthy and famous beach-goers that hang out there, which results in less crowds there than other beaches.

São Conrado Beach
This is the last neighborhood in the Zona Sul (South Zone of Rio), which means it is the last one with easy access for a tourist without car. São Conrado has a beach mainly frequented by locals; few tourists come here, except to try adventure sports like hiking Pedra da Gávea or Tandem Hang-gliding.
From the beach, you will have an impressive view to Favela da Rocinha and the incredible rocky mountains on both sides of it.

Barra da Tijuca Beach
After passing by São Conrado and going through a tunnel, you get to Barra da Tijuca, one of the newest neighborhoods in Rio. It has a kilometric beach with significantly stronger waves than all the ones we’ve talked about so far. Because of that, Barra Beach attracts a lot of surfers and younger people – though families also come here on weekends to enjoy its clean and refreshing water.
It has a more, called
·         Praia do Pepê -  a crowded part, at the beginning of the beach
·         Praia da Barra
·         Praia da Reserva, - the most isolated part, on the limit with Recreio neighborhood.

Recreio Beach
Very similar to Barra, but less crowded on weekends.
At the end of it, there’s a beautiful rocky mountain that divides it with Praia da Macumba and Praia do Pontal (the one from the song we mentioned at the beginning).

Grumari Beach
On a week day: you’ll probably doubt you are still in Rio. But it is true: there is almost a desert beach, just a few kilometers away from the “carioca civilisation”.

On weekends, however, it loses most of its hidden treasure aspect and is invaded by lots of families in cars filled to the brim (of course, more people go to beaches like Copacabana, so by comparison it is still quiet!). After relaxing in its clean waters (more tranquil on the right side), a great tip is to grab lunch at one of the great seafood restaurants typical of the Guaratiba neighbourhood.

Prainha Beach
Highly recommended to take a car. This is a prime surfers spot in Rio and one of the most beautiful beaches of the city. Combine the visit with a trip to its neighbor, Praia de Grumari.

Niterói beaches
Not actually in Rio
Visit especially for the view of Rio. The most famous beaches are

  •  Camboinhas, a family beach from where you can see Sugar Loaf from a unique angle, and
  •   Itacoatiara, divided in a younger zone, full of surfers and young people, and a child-friendly zone, which attracts families.
