We've passed the carbon dioxide concentration Threshold

We've passed the carbon dioxide concentration Threshold of 400 parts per million
Permanently
AND NOBODY NOTICED!
GAME OVER.

The concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere eclipsed 400 PPM threshold and stands at 415 PPM for the first time in 4.5 million years.
  • note: A CO2 concentration of 415 PPM means that for every million molecules of "air", 415 of them are CO2 molecules, (The other molecules are mainly nitrogen & oxygen).
We've passed what climate scientists call
             "the POINT-OF-NO-RETURN THRESHOLD".
             Permanently.

Why do climate scientists call it the POINT-OF-NO-RETURN THRESHOLD?

Because Climatologists have been stating that once CO2 concentrations pass the 400 PPM threshold, the CO2 concentrations would never return to lower levels in our lifetimes.

For example, Best case scenario:
  •     Everyone started driving electric cars tomorrow
  •     All airplanes & jets would never fly again'
  •     Cargo and Cruise ships would stop tomorrow
  •    Tomorrow, electricity would only be generated by
    • solar panels,
    • wind turbines,
    • water turbines,
  •    Sales of the following would be outlawed:
    • Gasoline
    •  Coal
    • Diesel fuel
  •     and all cows have to die tomorrow. (sorry McDonald's, their farts are killing us)
At best, one might expect a balance in the near term and so CO2 levels probably wouldn't change much — but would start to fall off in a decade or so. Nevertheless, in my opinion, we won’t ever see a CO2 level below 400.”
                     - Gavin Schmidt, NASA’s chief climate scientist

In 2030, CO2 concentrations are expected to rise to 420 PPM
greenhouse gases (GHG) come primarily from burning fossil fuels for energy use.
  • coal,
  • hydrocarbon gas liquids,
  • natural gas, and
  • petroleum.

 hydrocarbon gas liquids

Natural gas and crude oil are mixtures of different hydrocarbons.
Hydrocarbon gas liquids (HGL) are hydrocarbons that occur as gases at atmospheric pressure and as liquids under higher pressures. HGL can also be liquefied by cooling.
HGL may be described as being light or heavy according to the number of carbon atoms and hydrogen atoms in an HGL molecule.

HGL are categorized chemically as
  • Alkanes
    • Ethane—C2H6
    • Propane—C3H8
    • Butanes: normal butane and isobutane—C4H10
    • Natural gasoline or pentanes plus—C5H12 and heavier

  • Alkenes
    • Ethylene—C2H4
    • Propylene—C3H6
    • Normal butylene and isobutylene—C4H8

Hydrocarbon gas liquids are from natural gas and crude oil

HGL are found in raw natural gas and crude oil. HGL are extracted from natural gas

Hydrocarbon gas liquids have many uses

Because HGL straddle the gas/liquid boundary, their versatility and high energy density in liquid form make them useful for many purposes:
  • Feedstock in petrochemical plants to make chemicals, plastics, and synthetic rubber
  • Fuels for heating, cooking, and drying
  • Fuels for transportation
  • Additives for motor gasoline production
  • Diluent (a diluting or thinning agent) for transportation of heavy crude oil

In 2017, total HGL use accounted for about 13% of total U.S. petroleum consumption.

So, Party like there's no tomorrow!!!

And remember:
"The Earth is gonna be fine. It's self healing.... We're the ones who are Fucked!"
-George Carlin (a youTube snippet of one of Carlin's shows. )

I'm gonna buy a big green Tractor tomorrow and drive it to Rock Hill, SC!
(warning: if you click on that youtube link, you will NEVER be able to UN-HEAR that song.
Like the "Barney" song, or "It's a small world after all")
----------------------------------------------

Meanwhile,

A New Record High of 84°F (29°C) temperature was recorded in
Arkhangelsk, Russia (Архангельск, Arkhangelsk Oblast) yesterday.
See it's location below; Next to the northern quarter of Finland.
------------------------
Has this changed my longterm plans? Yes.
How?
  • First, I have to think of my daughter. When she's my age, there won't be any Thibodaux, Lafourche Parish, Chalmette, Saint Bernard, Plaquemines, or Terrebonne parishes
  • When I retire next year (May 26,2020), I'm gonna
    • sell this house, that is a staggering 11.5 inches above sea level, and
    • move to a place with an elevation above 1,000 feet -
    • move to a place  in the Western part of North Carolina, near Asheville.
------------------------
We don’t even know how to take care of ourselves yet.
We haven’t learned to care for one another—we’re gonna save the fuckin’ planet?
I’m gettin’ tired of that shit.

Besides, there is nothing wrong with the plane
The planet is fine.
The people are fucked.
Difference.

Compared to the people, the planet is doin’ great!
It’s been here four and a half billion years.

The planet has been through a lot worse than us.
Been through earthquakes, volcanoes, plate tectonics, continental drift, solar flares, sunspots,  and we think some plastic bags and some carbon emissions are going to make a difference?
The planet isn’t going anywhere
WE ARE!

We’re goin’ away.
Pack your shit, Folks, we’re goin’ away.
Planet’ll be here and we’ll be long gone.

Just another failed mutation.
Just another closed-end biological mistake, an evolutionary cul-de-sac.

The planet will be here for a long, long, long time after we’re gone and it will heal itself, it will cleanse itself ’cuz that’s what it does.
It’s a self-correcting system.
The air and the water will recover, the earth will be renewed.

I think we’re part of a greater wisdom than we’ll ever understand, a higher order, call it what you want.
You know what I call it?

The Big Electron.
Woooohhhh,       woooohhhh,        woooohhhh.

It doesn’t punish, it doesn’t reward, it doesn’t judge at all.
It just is, and so are we, for a little while.
